Laurence H. Abele Jr., 76, loving husband of Patricia A. Abele, passed away on Saturday May 19, 2018, surrounded by his loving family after a lengthy illness. Born in Meriden on February 11, 1942, he was the son of the late Howard and Althea Abele. Mr. Abele was a lifelong Meriden resident graduating from Maloney High School. Laurence was employed by CL&P for 36 years, prior to retiring. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, having served with the U.S. Air Force at Travis Air Force Base in California. Mr. Abele was a parishioner of St. Stanislaus Church. Laurence enjoyed hunting and camping, Nascar racing and visiting his vacation home in Vermont. Most of all he enjoyed watching his Grandchildren play sports.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his two daughters, Debra Mierzejewski and her husband Robert and Donnalee Arjavich and her husband Mike; his son, Laurence Abele and his wife Gina; his seven grandchildren, Alexa, Nicole, Taylor, Tristan, Machaila, Hannah and Tyler; his sister, Holly Knapp and her husband Richard. He is also survived by his two nieces, Samantha and Marlo and his nephew, Matthew. He also leaves behind lifelong friends Ray and Sandy Guest.
The funeral will be held on Wednesday, May 23rd at 10:30 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main Street, Meriden CT 06450 and at 11 a.m. at St. Faustina Parish, St. Stanislaus Church for a Mass of Christian Burial. Burial with military honors will be private. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, May 23rd from 9 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the service.
