John Joseph Mischke, 95, of Wesleyan Hills, Middletown, CT., beloved husband of Rita Reynolds Mischke passed away peacefully February 25, 2018. Born on February 10, 1923 in Meriden, CT he was the son of the late John Martin Mischke and Delia Riley Mischke.
John and his wife, Rita, were longtime residents of Meriden and St Rose Church prior to moving to Middletown and joining St Colman’s Parish for the past 22 years. John was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing and hunting with his three sons and his best friend, Roy Smith. He had many special memories of their times fishing at Lake Ontario, Oswego, New York and hunting in upstate New York. John enjoyed traveling to Cape Cod & Guilford, CT where he, and the family spent time clamming, jumping the waves and collecting shells. John often hosted family picnics and gatherings and enjoyed sharing time with his loving wife of 66 years, Rita, their 5 children and 14 beautiful grandchildren.
John was always involved in the community. He was a member of the Durham Rod and Gun Club, St Colman’s Finance Committee, and was especially proud of being a Fourth-Degree member of the Silver City Council No 2, Knights of Columbus, Meriden, CT. He was employed by Yale Television for a number of years, as well as by Armour and Co. from which he retired.
John is survived by Nyla Mischke (wife of Dr. Karl Mischke) of Kansas City, Missouri, Antaylor Mango of Farmington, Kevin Mischke and his wife Diane, of Middletown, Ellen Lee and her husband Denis, of Marana, Arizona and Kurt Mischke and his wife Leslie, of Meriden, CT. He is also survived by his 14 grandchildren who loved him dearly. He was predeceased by his wife, Rita, and his son, Dr. Karl Mischke as well as his sister, Betty Mischke, and brother, William (Billy) Mischke.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, March 2, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Colman Church, 170 Hubbard Street, Middlefield, CT 06455. Everyone is asked to gather directly at the church. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the John J.
