Obituary for Helen S. Zajac

Helen S. Zajac
Helen S. Zajac, 100, wife of the late Stanley Zajac, retired Lieutenant of the Meriden Police Department, died on Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at Miller Memorial.
Born in Hartford on August 6, 1917, Helen Staron Zajac was raised in Hartford and attended the public high school where she graduated and received certification as a hairdresser. After marrying Stan Zajac in 1939, she continued with her avocation of hairdressing at home during the early years of her marriage. She also worked part time during the war years at her father-in-law’s neighborhood store, Zajac’s Market. After her two sons were in high school, Helen worked for the Meriden Board of Education and the School Census Bureau. In her spare time she taught herself how to cane chair seats and established a small business for herself. She also taught a class in caning at the Meriden YMCA for several years. She was a lifelong parishioner of St. Stanislaus Church and in her later years, lived at Miller Memorial Community Inc. in Meriden where she made many friends among other residents and staff with her outgoing personality. She enjoyed spending time with her granddaughter, Marci.
She is survived by two sons, Bob Zajac and his wife Fran of East Dennis, MA and Paul Zajac and his wife Eileen of Westchester, PA; five grandchildren, Marci & Ed Zyskowski of Wallingford, Greg & Jennifer Zajac of Huntersville, NC, Jeff & Marjorie Zajac of Westchester, PA, Dan & Jennifer Zajac of Metairie, LA and David Zajac of Colorado and seven great-grandchildren, Sam, Mallory, Evelyn, Aubrey, Luke, Carter and Cami.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service to be held on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at 11 a.m. at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main Street, Meriden with Father Arthur Dupont officiating. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.
