Judith M. (Maloney) Kleist, 68, of Meriden, passed away on Monday, November 13, 2017 at Hartford Hospital after a very brief illness. Born in Dorchester, MA on September 23, 1949, Judy was the oldest child of the late Thomas and Mary (Brady) Maloney.
Judy graduated Mercy High School in 1967 and worked for Southern New England Telephone Company for 35 years in many different roles. She loved the work, the people and her strong work ethic was infectious. Upon retiring in 2005, Judy volunteered her time generously at Most Holy Trinity Church, also in a variety of roles. She served the Christians In Action Committee, founded the HOPE program serving parish elderly, instructed as a catechist, assisted in the parish office, and was a member of the Parish Council. She dutifully served on the Board for Mattabasset Condo III for several years. She enjoyed vacations by the water and spending time with family, friends and former Mercy classmates. She had a fun loving sense of humor and was a great storyteller.
She is survived by her husband, David Kleist of Wallingford, three daughters, Sheila (Justin) Tice of Fair Haven, NJ, Andrea (Andrew) Gregg of Meriden, and Deirdre Kleist of Chicago, IL; two grandchildren, Liam and Brinsley Tice; two sisters, Mary Anne Maloney and Margaret (Paul) Leger; one brother, Peter Maloney; her nieces and nephews, Erin Doughty, Shannon Parker, Kevin and Meghan Leger, Riley and Regan Maloney, and Gordon, Ross, Cynthia, and Bryan Kleist; two sisters-in-law, Lisa Kleist and Sharon Maloney; a brother-in-law, Derf (Cynthia) Kleist, and many cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her brother, Thomas Maloney.
Family will receive relatives and friends at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main Street in Meriden on Thursday, November 16,th (TODAY) from 4 to 7 pm. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, November 17, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Most Holy Trinity Church, 84 N. Colony Street in Wallingford. Everyone is asked to gather directly at the church. Internment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
