Obituary for Luis Carmelo Lorenzo Sr.

Luis Carmelo Lorenzo, Sr., 94, beloved husband of seventy-six years to Camila (Traverso) Lorenzo, passed away on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Aguada, Puerto Rico on July 16, 1922, he was the son of the late Felicita and Liborio Lorenzo. He had resided in New York and moved to Meriden in 1958. Mr. Lorenzo graduated from schools in Puerto Rico. He was employed by West Virginia Pulp and Paper Company and Pratt & Whitney prior to retirement. He was a peacetime veteran, having served with the U.S. Army. Mr. Lorenzo was a parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Church. Luis loved wood working, but most of all, he loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Doris Bateman of Meriden; a son, Luis Carmelo Lorenzo, Jr. and his wife Marietta Lorenzo of Meriden; five grandchildren, Lisa Kivel and her husband Richard of MA, Linda Kensak and her husband Anthony of NJ, Luis Michael Lorenzo and his wife Leah of Meriden, Laura Sorensen and her husband Joseph of Meriden and Mark Bateman Jr. and his fiancé Kaytlyn of Meriden; ten great-grandchildren, Grayson, Isabella, Lilah, Livvy Mae, Vanessa, Kira, Jackson, Logan, Anthony Michael and Liam Jean; one brother, Manuel Lorenzo of San Juan, PR and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Gilberto Lorenzo and two sisters, Tata Vega and Doris Lorenzo.
The funeral will be held on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at 10:30 am from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main Street, Meriden and at 11 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Church for a Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday morning prior to the service from 9 to 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Franciscan Home Care and Hospice Care, 267 Finch Avenue, Meriden, CT 06451. Luis’s family would like to thank Ena Patterson, his home health aide and his nurses, Gina, Agnes, Mary Alice, Jan and Sister Catherine Mary of the Franciscan Hospice and Healthcare for the wonderful and supportive care given to him.
