Eugene H. Baril, 82, passed away on Friday, February 17, 2017 after a brief illness surrounded by his loving family. Born in Waterbury on November 16, 1934, he was the son of the late Alfred and Aurora Baril. Eugene resided in Meriden for most of his life and attended and graduated through the Waterbury School System. Mr. Baril was employed by Eyelet Specialty Company of Wallingford and most recently, as a crossing guard in Meriden for the past 17 years. He was known as the crossing guard on the corner of Baldwin and Converse Ave. who always smiled and waved to everyone that passed. Eugene was a member of the Silver City Gun Club and he was also a troop leader for many years with the Boy Scouts of America. Eugene was an avid plate and target shooter and enjoyed spending time at the range.
Eugene is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth Hubbard and her husband James of Wolcott; his three sons, Matthew J. Baril of Torrington, Christopher C. Baril of Meriden and Daniel E. Baril and his wife Christine of Meriden; his ten grandchildren, Ryan and Mikaela Baril, Danielle, Melissa and Jason Baril, Matthew and James Baril, Carmella and Aurora Baril and Joshua Hubbard. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Eugene was predeceased by his sisters, Alice Baril and Florence Murray and his brothers, Norman Baril and Francis Baril.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend calling hours at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden, CT 06450 on Wednesday, February 22nd from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial with military honors will be private.
