George E. Lane Jr, 88, husband of the late Judith (Murphy) Lane, died on Thursday, December 29, 2016 at his home at the Village at Kensington surrounded by his family after a lengthy illness. Born in Meriden on September 10, 1928, he was the son of the late George and Alice (Underwood) Lane. He was a lifelong Meriden resident. Mr. Lane was a Maintenance Supervisor for the State of Connecticut, retiring on 1994. George was in the Army National Guard, stationed in Germany during the Korean Conflict. He was a Sergeant with the Meriden Auxiliary Police Department and an advisor for the Meriden Police Explorers for many years. George loved spending time fishing with his wife and family at their second home in the Florida Keys.
He is survived by one son, Michael Lane and his wife Sandie of Edgewater, Florida; one daughter, Sarah Ladd and her husband Michael of Middletown; Five grandchildren, Michael and Alexis Lane and Jacob, Cooper and Griffin Ladd. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by five siblings, Ruth Ingraham, Edna Kennedy, Evelyn Brookes, Doris Laude and Charles Lane.
The funeral will be held on Saturday, December 31, 2016 at 11 am at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main Street, Meriden. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday morning prior to the service from 10 to 11 am.
