Obituary for Henry M. "Hank" Sawicki

Henry M. "Hank" Sawicki
Henry “Hank” M. Sawicki Sr., 82, beloved husband of the late Patricia F. Gostyla, died peacefully on Monday, October 3, 2016 after a courageous battle with cancer and a brain stroke. Born in Meriden on September 29, 1934, he was the son of the late James and Jennie (Zwolinski) Sawicki. He attended St. Stanislaus School and then graduated from Horace C. Wilcox Technical High School in 1952. He was a United States Army veteran, serving during the Korean War. After his discharge from the Army, he worked at Pratt & Whitney until 1964 when he and his devoted wife, Pat, started their carpet cleaning company, Hank Sawicki & Son’s, Inc. which they ran for over fifty years. He was also a past member of the Kiwanis Club of Meriden. He truly loved and enjoyed his family, especially his grandchildren. He loved playing Santa Claus every Christmas Eve for them while they were young….a family tradition. He loved to work outdoors, meeting his friends for the horse races, reading and simply enjoying life. He was always busy.
He leaves two daughters, Deborah A. Cossette and her husband Mark and Pamela F. Beaudoin and her husband Rico; two sons, Henry M. Sawicki Jr. and his wife Cindy and Scott T. Sawicki and Lora Martino. He also leaves his grandchildren, Joshua, Benjamin, Jake, Jamilee and Brianna, along with nieces and nephews as well as his beloved friend, Patricia Dalzell. He was predeceased by his sisters, Harriet, Emily and Regina and his brothers, Richard and Alfred Sawicki.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service to be held on Friday, October 7, 2016 at 11:30 a.m. at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main Street, Meriden. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, October 6th from 4 to 7 pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, New England Division, 38 Richards Avenue, Norwalk, CT 06854-2328.
