Kieren T. Conklin, age 59, died Friday September 9, 2016 in his home surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born October 1, 1956 in South Meriden, the second eldest of seven children born to the late James P. and Katharyn (Reilly) Conklin. He was a parishioner of St. Joseph church.
Kerry attended Holy Angels School, Lincoln Middle School, and graduated from Orville H. Platt High School in 1974. He also attended Middlesex Community College before becoming a professional server.
His work brought him up and down the east coast to Portsmouth, New Hampshire; Rockland, Maine; West Palm Beach, Florida; and the Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia where he had a long and prosperous career along with making some lifelong friends.
Kerry returned home in 1990 to care for his mother and worked at the Old Mill in Southington and then with the Marriott group for several years before joining Max Fish in Glastonbury where he worked for the remainder of his career.
Kerry is survived by his 6 brothers and sisters and their spouses: Kevin Conklin and wife Laura Leclair, James Conklin, Kathleen Conklin and her husband Christian Latulippe, William Conklin, Eileen Conklin-Macri and her husband Nicholas, Mary Kate Kennedy and her husband Steven. He is also survived by 13 beloved nieces and nephews: Kristin Conklin, his godson K.C. Conklin, Karla Rivera and her husband Jacob, his goddaughter Audrey Conklin, Grace Conklin, Mathieu Latulippe, Kyle Conklin, Elizabeth Conklin, and Katharyn Conklin, Ryen Robinson, Steven Kennedy, Breyden Kennedy, his “little lovebug” Ireland Kennedy, and great nieces Evelyn Rivera and Brookelynn Vass.
The Conklin family would like to thank the staff and friends at Max Fish for their tremendous support and for their fundraising campaign, and the people who contributed to the fund during Kerry’s illness. We would also like to thank our many friends and family who provided meals and loving care along with his many supportive friends in the program. The wonderful staff at Smilow provided the best care and treatment, especially Karen Underwood who became his #1 on-site advocate. In addition, we would also like to thank Kerry’s hospice nurse, Gina Sullo and the team at Masonicare who were so very helpful in providing us everything we needed to allow Kerry to be at home in the end.
Kerry lead a very active life. Some of his favorite hobbies were golfing, skiing, and hunting – especially with his buddies in West Virginia. Kerry’s love for life was his family, especially his cherished nieces and nephews. We will all miss him dearly.
